Ian Berry
At first glance, Ian Berry's works appear to be blue-toned photographs or indigo oil paintings. However, even up close, many viewers don't realise they are actually looking at layers of denim jeans. His medium is not just about using old jeans; it is his way of seeing the world, his "paint." The depth, texture, and careful crafting of each piece of denim create a painterly tone that captures the essence of urban life.

Berry's art began with a simple observation of a pile of old jeans and their contrasting shades of blue. This experiment quickly turned him into one of the most talked-about young artists. He has been recognized as a leading artist under 30 and a top influencer in the denim world, but he prefers not to label his work as "denim art."

Originally from Huddersfield, a town with a rich textile history, Berry has created commissioned portraits of notable figures such as Debbie Harry, Jennifer Saunders, Giorgio Armani, and Ayrton Senna. His works have been exhibited internationally, including sell-out solo shows and exhibitions across Europe and the United States.

Berry's notable exhibitions include 'Behind Closed Doors,' 'My Beautiful Launderette' (2016), and 'Hotel California' (2019). His permanent installation, the Secret Garden, can be seen at the New San Fran Flower Mart in San Francisco. He has also been a founding member of Art Materialism, a movement of artists known for working with a single material. Berry has lived and worked in Sydney, Australia, Skane in Sweden, and Amsterdam, and he is now based in Poplar, East London.
