CRYSTAL ART ON BOARD, WHEN ART TAKES TO THE HIGH SEAS at the Monaco Yacht Show
As the Monaco Yacht Show draws to a close today, it raises an interesting question for collectors: why should art remain on land?
We are accustomed to experiencing important works of art in museums, galleries, hotels and private homes. But the superyacht has increasingly become another fascinating setting for art, design and exceptional craftsmanship.
Perhaps the most extraordinary example is Salvator Mundi, the painting attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, which sold at Christie's in 2017 for a record $450 million. There were widely reported claims in 2019 that the painting had subsequently been kept aboard the superyacht Serene, although its whereabouts have remained the subject of considerable speculation (The Guardian).
In Monaco this week, Crystal Caviar has taken the idea rather beautifully onto the water with CRYSTAL ART ON BOARD, presenting remarkable works in Bohemian crystal within the world of superyachts.
My own appreciation of crystal sculpture has a very personal connection. It was through Marek Landa, founder of Crystal Caviar, that Danièle and I began collecting these remarkable works ourselves. Marek has a real vision for bringing the work of master crystal artists to an international audience, and it has been a pleasure to become involved and see that vision developing firsthand.
There is something particularly compelling about seeing crystal beside the sea, constantly transformed by natural light, water and reflection. And perhaps that is the point. Wherever we choose to live, on land or at sea, art has the ability to transform the space around us.
Do see the marvellous works by rhe renowed Master Glass Sculptors Vlastimil Beránek, and Jaroslav Prošek on this website or send us a message.
Warm regards
