THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN! 🏆 Congratulations Frances Bell

Delighted to see our great friend and exceptional artist Frances Bell announced as the winner of the the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait Award Visitors’ Choice at the National Portrait Gallery for her beautiful portrait, Turning Thirteen.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Frances for The Art Review earlier in the exhibition, when she spoke so personally about painting her daughter and the careful thought behind the pose, clothing and atmosphere of this wonderfully sensitive portrait.
There is something particularly special about the Visitors’ Choice. It represents the response of the people who have stood in front of these works and chosen the portrait that spoke most strongly to them.
And this photograph makes the story even more special — Frances, her daughter and Turning Thirteen together at the National Portrait Gallery.
Huge congratulations, Frances, so richly deserved!
