Marilyn Monroe at 100: Why Does She Still Matter?

Outstanding exhibition and a fascinating conversationwith Carrie Kania, Creative Director of Iconic Images. Marilyn Monroe: ICON  exhibition

During a fascinating conversation with Carrie Kania, one thing became abundantly clear: more than six decades after her passing, Marilyn Monroe continues to captivate audiences around the world.

Her image remains instantly recognisable, but perhaps her enduring appeal lies in something deeper: the intersection of celebrity, vulnerability, ambition and cultural influence.

As part of my continuing coverage features for The Art Review of major cultural exhibitions, I visited Marilyn Monroe: ICON at the Iconic Images Gallery in London. Bringing together works by some of the most celebrated photographers and artists associated with Marilyn's life and legacy, the exhibition offers a compelling exploration of one of the twentieth century's most enduring cultural figures.

What struck me most during my conversation with Carrie was how relevant Marilyn remains today. Few cultural figures continue to inspire such fascination across generations. More than sixty years after her death, her story continues to resonate, while her image remains one of the most powerful and enduring in modern culture.

Beautifully curated, Marilyn Monroe: ICON invites visitors to look beyond the icon and gain a deeper appreciation of the woman behind the image. Through extraordinary photographs and artworks, the exhibition explores the complexity, charisma and cultural significance of a figure whose influence extends far beyond Hollywood.

The accompanying interview with Carrie Kania provides valuable insight into the vision behind the exhibition and why Marilyn Monroe continues to inspire audiences around the world.
